I'm A Big Kid Now

Guess who is peeing in the potty?
Thanks to Brandy the Baby Whisperer, 2 days before his 3rd birthday, Jackson is wearing big boy underwear during the day.
YAY!

I'm Walkin'

Sam's walking!
To be fair, he has been walking since March 31, but because I am slack lately, I just haven't caught it on video. So here it is. Plus a bonus of cute on the side.

Who's My Pretty Baby

Samuel's 1 year stats and milestone list:

Height: 29 inches (18th %)
Weight: 20 lbs 14 oz (42nd %)
He is wearing 12 month clothes and size 2 shoes.
He's leaning up. Where'd all that baby fat go?

He is a very picky eater. He likes anything that even looks like a carb (pasta, potatoes, muffins, waffles, puffs, corn grain snacks, crackers...). But give him a fruit or vegetable and he cries. I'm working on him (or shall I say Brandy, the Baby Whisperer, is working on him). He still nurses 5 times a day.

Samuel moves around quickly. He crawls, pulls up, climbs, and is starting to cruise a little.

He appears to enjoy most music. He loves to pull up on the piano and play it.
And he really stopped and listened to the handbells at my parents' Christmas program.

But his favorite toy in all the world is trucks. He likes to make them drive all around. From big trucks all the way down to little matchbox cars, the child loves vehicles.

Samuel loves bathtime. If you say "splash", he splashes with both hands and a big smile. He also loves to have his teeth brushed (all 5 of them - yes, we got a 5th tooth on the 14th).

As far as speaking goes, the boy is a chatterbox. But only he can understand what he is saying. He typically says "nananananana" when he is upset, and "dadadadadadadada" when he is happy. He does say "Jackson" consistently, "mama" sometimes, and I swear I heard him say "All Done" once.

Sleep habits are FINALLY good. He takes two (sometimes one) naps a day totaling 3-4 hours, and sleeps through the night (generally 7:45pm - 7:30am). He does not like to be held while sleeping; he would much rather go to sleep on his own. He finally gets to use a blanket of his own, and I put him to sleep with a pacifier though he uses it as a teething tool rather than something to suck on.

Samuel is such a sweet little guy. He smiles with his whole face, and giggles a lot. He is a Mama's Boy though, and doesn't like it when I get too far out of sight. He points his little finger and gives me big opened mouth slobbery kisses. I cannot imagine my life without this beautiful blonde haired, blue eyed boy.

Crawl

It's a big day here at our house!

Because...

SAMUEL'S CRAWLING!

Watch out...nothing is safe anymore...much less Jackson's toys (though Jackson has been pretty awesome at sharing with Samuel lately).

Samuel likes to pause for a little downward dog...

...before crawling again.

How I Roll

It's official! We have a roller!

And Jackson was so proud! Here he is congratulating Samuel.

Where Do Babies Go

Just thought I'd make an update on Jackson's developmental skills.

Height: 35 in
Weight: 25 lb

All of his teeth are in with the exception of two of the 2-year molars on the right side.

He talks a lot, and learns new words every day. He speaks in sentences, and can answer questions and follow instructions quite well (and sometimes humorously)!
Some are my recent favorites are:
"What now?"
"S is for Samuel" and then hands Samuel the letter S
When something hurts on Jackson, he'll come up to me and say "My _____ hurts. Kiss it"

He learned how to use a water gun.

Though he mainly shoots himself in the face.

He is finally in 18 month clothes. Though I do have to use a belt or a dapper snapper to keep his pants from falling down.

Jackson loves to watch movies. His current favorite is Cars. He loves anything and everything Lightning McQueen.

He also loves to work puzzles. And he is very good at it.

He loves the ABCs and can identify most letters and a word (or two) that begins with that letter. He knows most of his colors (red, blue, green, orange, yellow, pink, white, black, purple). He knows his body parts. And he can count to 11. He can sing several songs (The Alphabet Song, Row Row Row Your Boat, and a CleanUp Song). Most of all, he LOVES to dance.

He is so ready to start on his potty learning journey. He tells me when he has to go pee and poop and when he needs to be changed, and he likes to sit on the potty. But he won't do go IN the potty just yet. The goal is to embark on the 3 day potty training method the first week of June. The time is upon us!

Jackson likes most food. His favorites are grilled cheese, macaroni and cheese, cheeseburgers (do you see a theme here), peas, oranges, bananas, sausage, granola bars, and applesauce. We still do our traditional Saturday morning boboball (donutball) run. He isn't a big fan of ice cream or french fries though he will eat them on occasion. For a special treat, he prefers a cookie or marshmallows.

He is an incredibly sweet little boy. He says "please" "thank you" and "sorry" without prompting at the appropriate times. He loves his little brother and gives him kisses and hugs daily. He likes playing with his daycare buddies (especially Madelyn and Dillon). I am so thankful for and happy with Miss Brandy, Jackson's daycare provider. Samuel will be joining the clan in August when I go back to work.

Don't worry...it isn't all happiness and light. Jackson does act 2 at times - stubborn and demanding, insisting things be done his way. He does have tantrums and try to weasel his way out of bedtime anyway possible ("Brush Teeth", "Wash Hands", "Wipe Eyes", "Wipe Nose", "Juice", "Fan On", "Brush Hair", "Read Book" ...I've heard them all). But luckily, they are few and far between at the moment.

Mostly he loves life, running and playing and exploring. And life loves him. Where did my little baby go?

Shiny Happy People

Samuel is 4 Months Old!

He talks and smiles all the time.

He has the most beautiful blue eyes

And the craziest strawberry blonde hair...that the kids at Harrison love molding into the perfect mohawk.

He has a horrible case of cradle cap which itches and then weeps. I have been trying to keep hats on him so he doesn't mess with it.

He loves to sit in his Bumbo.

And just recently got an activity center, too.

Although, he thinks some of the animals are cuhrazy.

Jackson takes great delight in sharing his toys with Samuel, though Samuel isn't quite sure what to do with them yet.

Samuel's 4 Month Stats are:
Height: 25 in.
Weight: 15 lbs, 10 oz

*Smiles
*Can track objects and people
*Holds objects in hands
*Can grab objects
*Blows raspberries and bubbles
*Holds head up
*Rolls onto side
*Coos

Sleep habits: 3 naps a day - doesn't like to sleep on the go. Would prefer to be in bed at home. Bedtime at 9pm. Wakes twice a night - usually at 1 and 5. Sleeps until 7:30.

Samuel is a sweet little baby, and I enjoy every day with him.

Bag Of Toys

Samuel's new favorite thing to do...

...play with his Bouncy Seat toys. He gets so excited! And he can grab them with a good deal of accuracy, pull on them, and talk to them. Clever baby!

Smile

1 Month Old! Can you believe it? That month flew by!

Little Samuel has hit some milestones!

On the day he turned 4 weeks old, he started to smile! Intentionally. His gummy smile lights up his whole face. I dare anyone to try not to smile back in return.

And finally, on his one month birthday, Samuel's umbilical cord fell off! Wow! That held on for a long time! And some of it is still in his belly button...buried deep in there.

Samuel is a good little baby. He still sleeps nice stretches at night; the longest at 4.5 hours. Breastfeeding is going well - he is a great eater! He has attended all of my work commitments with me, either resting in the sling or sleeping in his carrier, without any hassles. On Wednesday, I start back to USI and I am anxious to see how he reacts to that choir as in utero, he would always get very still when they sang.

I think Samuel is getting a little more used to Jackson. These are typical Jackson/Samuel interractions:

He is becoming so much more aware of things. He can focus better now - and his eyes cross as a result. I love his big blue eyes! And when he smiles at you, it is magic!

What a great first month!

Back Home Again

After 5 weeks of being in America, I have finally found a few minutes to post a much needed blog!

I am so happy to be home! Lots of exciting things have happened in the past month:

Jackson has started exclusively walking. Almost the day we got home from Florida (July 1), he gave up crawling and has been walking (no wait...running) ever since.

Teeth numbers 9 and 10 have made their appearance and I am sure judging from the amount of drool coming out of Jackson's mouth that numbers 11 and 12 are not far behind.

Jackson has learned a lot of new words. The current list is:
Mama
Dada
Nana
Hawa (Holly)
Dut (Duck)
Shoe
Achoo
Ocean
Hello
What's this/that
Who is it
Juice
Clock

And he fake snores (thank you Bapa). Some of his other staples are winking (with both eyes) and blowing kisses.

Jackson adjusted well upon arriving to the USA. He had jetlag for 2 nights (playing for 2 hours in the middle of the night before falling back to sleep) and then we were back in the normal routine.

We had a belated first birthday celebration for Jackson with my family. We went to Chuckie Cheese for pizza, rides and games.

And then came home for cake and ice cream.

Speaking of food, Jackson has mainly been eating adult food! It is much easier to get him fed. And, man, is he an eater! He'll eat nearly anything you give him. He loves fish, potatoes, mac and cheese, grilled cheese, pizza, carrots and peas, corn, applesauce, yogurt, turkey hot dogs and waffles with syrup. He has also figured out how to use his snack tub. I'll put wheat puffs, Goldfish, and yogurt melts in there and he just carries it around and pulls them out when he wants them. Brilliant!

Jackson also got his first professional haircut. We had to use a lollipop near the end to keep him distracted, but he didn't seem to mind. He did such a good job and Mindy did a wonderful job on his crazy hair!

I bought a baby bike seat for the back of my bike (it's easier to bike here due to the flatness). I bought Jackson a helmet as well. As you may or may not know, Jackson DOES NOT like hats of any kind. Never has... but he has to have a helmet for this. So we tried one on in the store. He hated it.

A couple of days later, we pulled the helmet out at home and put it on him. He loved it! He paraded around with his helmet just smiling. He kept it on for about an hour!

We finally got the bike seat put on the bike (by we I mean my dad and Mr Charlie) and off we went. FUN!

Our family took a vacation to Florida. We went to Disney World and then Daytona Beach. Despite the heat and my dad getting sick, we had a blast!

It's a Small World was by far Jackson's favorite ride. He "oohed" and pointed his way through it. Twice. And clapped at the end.

He also liked all of the 3-D movies. Even though he wouldn't keep his glasses on, he sat through them and looked and was totally into it! Epcot was the best park for a baby in my opinion. He could go on most of the rides there. And most of the rides were in the air conditioning.

At Daytona we spent every day at the beach and the pool. Surprisingly, the ocean wasn't a big hit with the little man.

As long as he wasn't near the ocean water, he was fine. He loved exploring in the sand.

But I think he much preferred the pool.

In other news, we are expecting our second baby! Jackson will make a great big brother!

The new baby is due December 22 (which currently makes me 17 weeks pregnant, although the picture is my 16 week bump).

I have met my doctor and really like him. Hopefully we will be able to find out the gender in the near future. Any guesses?
The pregnancy is going well. It is amazing how different this one is to Jackson. I mean some things are the same - I didn't have any morning sickness with this one either. But with Jackson I had gorgeous full hair and blemish free skin. Now my hair is falling out and my skin won't stop breaking out (including those pesky little skin tags). Everywhere. I felt both babies kick around the same time. I forgot how wonderful baby kicks are! I craved cheeseburgers with Jackson. With this one, I seem to be drawn to yogurt and fruit. YUMMY!
Most of all though, I am feeling a little guilty about not documenting this one as well. I suppose during my first pregnancy it is all I had to think about. But now I focus a lot of my time on Jackson and the pregnancy just... well... happens! The curse for the second child, I guess!
I am still nursing Jackson twice (sometimes three times) a day. I want to let him wean himself. I have a don't offer don't remind policy and if he wants it he lets me know. I have read that toddlers generally will wean themselves during the second trimester of their mom's pregnancy because the consistency of the breast milk goes to that of colostrum. And also supposedly the taste changes due to the hormones. But Jackson doesn't seem to mind. I can just see me tandem feeding a 20 month old and a new baby. I love breastfeeding Jackson, but I wouldn't mind having my breasts to myself for a bit before starting it all over again. I guess we'll play it by ear!

More exciting news: my sister got engaged!

Noel is a great guy and I am so happy for her. Uncle Noel is one of Jackson's favorite people (just below cousin Myles). Their wedding will take place next June and I am the matron of honor. That gives me approx 6 months to lose all of the baby weight (plus the Jackson baby weight I never lost). I will need a plan, motivation and lots of encouragement.

All in all, things are going really well for us here. I am happier than I have been in a long long time. I can't wait until David gets here on the 3rd of August. We miss him a lot!
