Famous First Words

All of a sudden on Monday night, Samuel said "Jackson"...over and over again. And hasn't really stopped. Sometimes it is clearer than others. He'll say it multiple times an hour. Or a minute. Until Jackson pays attention to him. Like this morning...in the car...on the way to daycare...
SAMUEL: "Jackson."
JACKSON: singing the ABCs
SAMUEL: "Jackson."
JACKSON: singing Row Row Row Your Boat
SAMUEL: "Jackson."
JACKSON: "Yes, Samuel?"
SAMUEL & JACKSON: giggles

This is the happiness of life.

Song 2

It is the post of twos! Jackson is 22 months old - just 2 months away from being 2!

Here is what he looked like this time last year:

This post is a little later than I intended for it to be... last Thursday we were struck by the dreaded Stomach Bug. First Jackson got it. Then it went away. Then it made it's return. Then I got it. Then Dad. Then Mom. Then Mio. FINALLY yesterday we all went back to normal - daycare and work. That thing is horrible! Glad we are done with it!

So here is long overdue update on my little man, the almost two year old, Jackson Wayne!

One Tuesday afternoon before Valentine's Day after nap, we spent some time together while Samuel was sleeping making cookies. I had been looking forward to the time when I could bake with Jackson ever since I found out I was pregnant. Who doesn't like to make cookies with their Mom? So I brought out the step stool and the cookie cutters and we were off.

We even played "making cookies" while we were waiting on them to bake.

I was in Mommy Bliss. And Jackson had fun, too, though I'm not sure whether he had more fun making the cookies or eating the cookies. The step stool is now his favorite piece of furniture. He loves standing on it and watching what is going on up high.

Speaking of Mommy Bliss...Jackson will now watch a feature length movie all the way through and react to it appropriately. We have watched Despicable Me and Cars so far. He laughs and says "ought oh", and likes to cheer on Lightning McQueen with a "Go Lightning McQueen"!

The rate at which he is developing amazes me. I really do love this age. Every day it is something new. His vocabulary increases so much on a daily basis. He now uses possessive nouns (i.e. Mommy's coat, Bapa's car, Samuel's bath) as well as the word "mine". A few days ago when he was not feeling well, I told him we would go buy the Cars Movie. He wanted to do that. I then asked him if he would like to eat breakfast. He said "No Mommy. Cars Movie." (Eventually he settled for some cereal before going). He now responds with yes or no. It is actually Yes (or Yeh as he says) way more than No so I am liking this stage so far.

He likes to color and can identify the colors red, green, orange and blue.

One Friday night we went to Chuck E Cheese to celebrate Myles's achievements in school. Jackson enjoyed riding on the rides, but really came alive when he learned how to navigate the playset and slide. He won the jackpot (with the help of Uncle Noel) twice. He ended up with 182 tickets. He shared them with Myles, but not before picking out his prize...crayons.

It has finally been warm enough to head outside to play. We brought out his tricycle and he has been learning to use the peddles to make himself go. I can't wait for the weather to be consistently more play-worthy! Fresh air makes everyone happier!

Jackson's love of books amazes me and makes me very happy. He likes to read, be read to, and he even sleeps with his books! One night after being put in bed, he asked for his Thomas book. Thinking he was going to read it while trying to fall asleep, I gave it to him. He then hugged it to his chest and closed his eyes. Stuffed animals? No way. Books? Yes, please!

I found him like this one night as I checked on him before heading to bed:

Just lately I pulled out the old chalkboard and alphabet magnets. He can identify an "o" correctly, and he likes to try and spell. Most all words include the letters "a", "e", and "double" (w).

Jackson has the sweetest personality and I love watching him become his own little person.

I love you, sweet pea!

Big Boy

Because I am backdating posts, here is an update on my little man, Jackson. I didn't realize how big he was getting until Samuel was born. Now he seems so grown up!

Here is Jackson the day Samuel was born.

When Jackson and my mom came to pick Samuel and me up from the hospital, Jackson had on a Santa hat. I felt like Jackson Claus had come to take me home.

Jackson made a gingerbread house at daycare before the Christmas break. I was so proud of him! Miss Brandy said he would put on a candy, then eat one, put one on, then eat one... that's Nana's grandson!

Jackson has proven to be quite the little musician. He loves to sit at the piano and play - not banging with a full hand like toddlers usually do, but one finger at a time.

He also sings and dances constantly. He will dance to anything. And by anything, I literally mean an-y-thing. Of course, it makes my heart glad that he likes music and the arts!

Despite the devastating losses the Colts have endured this season, we still love them. Have you seen a cuter Colts fan?

Since Dada has been gone, Jackson misses him and he loves talking to Dada on Skype (me, too)! Jackson found this old picture of us and carried it around all morning!

Jackson loves his trains. It's the first thing he plays with in the morning and the last thing at night. He uses the shopping cart he got for Christmas to tote all his trains and cars around.

Jackson loves to read. He reads to himself, to other people, and loves being read to. See how he reads this book and imitates the pictures?

Exciting news: we are in the beginning stages of potty training! I can't wait to only have to worry about changing one diapered bottom. We got him a new Elmo potty and potty book. He practices sitting on his new potty, but only fully clothed. He does go in to the bathroom on occasion to potty in his diaper... at least he knows that that room is where that is suppose to happen! Progress...

For a while, Jackson's eating habits had become somewhat picky. At one point, he would only eat grilled cheese, macaroni and cheese, pizza, french fries, occasionally chicken, string cheese, waffles, and yogurt. Fortunately, he has been expanding his tastes and will now eat a wider variety of foods including Almond Butter, Mandarin Oranges, Dave's Mom's Chicken, Toasted Ham and Turkey Sandwiches and pretty much anything else as long as he can dip it in Ketchup or Cheese Sauce. On the day on which the following pictures was taken, I made Jackson grilled cheese, pretzels, and mandarin oranges for lunch. He ate the oranges first, then the pretzels, then asked for more oranges. He proceeded to eat half the tin of mandarin oranges and say "all done". He didn't touch one piece of the grilled cheese. Be still my heart...

Jackson has also taken up the activity of running. Fast. Everywhere. And it's even better if he can push something while he's running.

Jackson's vocabulary has just blossomed. To the already extensive list, he's added:
In
Out
Off
On
Yogurt
Bo Bo Balls (Donut Balls)
Oel (Noel)
Please
Thank you
Baby
Sam/Samuel
Abby (you know...Elmo's friend)
One
Two
Read
Eat
Yummy
Snow
Let's Go
Brush Teeth
All Done
Orange
Thomas (now actually sounds like Thomas)
Percy (you know...Thomas's friend)
Fish
Ready
See Ya
Coat
Hi Sweet Pea
It's okay
Go Colts!
Gross
Wow (most commonly said when we turn on his constellation night light)
Sing

And I am sure there are some that I've forgotten.

He can sing his ABC's up to "lmnop" and count to two.

But you have to be careful what you say around him because he will repeat it. He is a little parrot!

Some of my favorite Jackson stories from the past couple of weeks:
I went to pick him up from daycare last week and Brandy had on AOL radio tuned to the kid's channel. It was the Chipmunks singing "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas and all of the kids were dancing including Jackson. They were having so much fun!
You'll notice in the word list that Jackson says "Hi Sweet Pea". I call him Sweet Pea and he has started calling me Sweet Pea as well. It is adorable.
And in the mornings when we go in his room to wake him up, he greets us with an enthusiastic "hi"!
Jackson has an Old MacDonald farmer with his new farm set. He refers to Old MacDonald as "EIEIO".

Luckily, the sickness seems to have left our household for the time being (knocking on wood as we speak). David started giving him Vitamin C and Immunity Boosting Vitamins while he was here which I've kept up in his absence, and I haven't so much as wiped his nose since before Christmas. YAY!!

Jackson is such a good big brother. He throws away dirty diapers and helps me burp Samuel. He hasn't had any real moments of jealousy and remains a good natured, easy child. He is growing up before my eyes and in just a few short months, he'll be two.

I love you Sweet Pea!

The Three Of Us

As I type this, we are in our final 15 hours of being a family of three. I am so excited to meet Inside Baby. But I am also nervous at the same time. I am nervous about the repeat Cesarean, but mostly I am nervous about leaving Jackson for three days and how he will react to another new baby around taking my attention. I am sure he will be fine, but I can't help worry about my precious little boy!

I am feeling pretty good. We are all over our sicknesses (yes, the Penicillin was causing Jackson's diarrhea and red butt - so we'll add that to the no-give list along with the eggs and milk). I was able to fulfill ALL of my work commitments; my weight gain has really slowed down and I don't feel as "big" as I did - I carried Jackson back further than Inside Baby...he is all out front; and despite a Urinary Tract Infection and several painful episodes of Braxton Hicks contractions, the last few weeks have been pretty uneventful!

Here is my final belly pic at 39 weeks:

Some things that have happened since my last post:

We celebrated Thanksgiving. Jackson looked so handsome in his cords and sweater.

We deep fried a turkey which turned out absolutely delicious!!

It went so well that we decided to try our hand at deep fried Twinkies. They were equally as delicious!

We also celebrated Myles's 7th birthday at GattiTown.

I am so glad David is here. He has been here for nearly 2 weeks now! Jackson was so excited to see him and loves being able to see Dada and play with him every day!

I put in a special order of snow just so David could see it fall and it did! Nearly 3 inches, too! And cold cold cold complete with ice and loveliness. David is in ice heaven - he thinks this is all fantastic! Jackson got to wear his new winter gear.

I am still nesting, but have nearly gotten everything set up. Jackson's new room has a coloring station:

And a train set (the child LOVES choo-choo trains. LOVES them):

Jackson's vocabulary has grown leaps and bounds. He speaks so clearly and for the most part is able to get what he needs to say across fairly accurately and easily.
New words include:
Toles (Thomas)
Sponge Bob
Choo-Choo Train
Open
Close
Don't Touch
Christmas Tree
Ho Ho (Santa)
Grandmommy
Mioioioio
Brandy
JuJu (Judy)
Snow
Pee-shoo (stinky diaper)
Ready
Scratch scratch (bunny rabbit - one of his books associates the bunny with the sound scratch scratch)

He has begun saying two word phrases like "more cheese" and "bye Bapa".

Can sing ABC's... well, the melody... still working on the letters bit
Can count...kind of...the numbers aren't in order, but you can make out three, six, one, etc...

And if you say "big and strong" to Jackson he shows you his muscles. Hilarious!

But mostly, we've spent our last weeks as a family of three being silly!

(New favorite bathtime game - squirt the adult outside the bath)

(Typical Jackson - juice cup in one hand, train/truck/car in the other)

So I am going to quit blogging and spend time with my family for our final night together. We have to be at the hospital at 5am tomorrow morning and surgery is scheduled for 7am. We look forward to welcoming Inside Baby to the Outside World. And we can't wait to introduce him to you.
